Joe Biden Diagnosed With ‘Aggressive’ Cancer

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, his office confirmed in a statement on Sunday. The statement detailed that Biden’s diagnosis is "prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone." It added, "While this is a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management." What does the diagnosis mean for patients?
"The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians," the statement added. Biden underwent further evaluation after a small nodule was found in his prostate during a prior check-up, prompting additional testing, his office had said last week.
Several leaders, including President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, sent their condolences and hoped for Biden’s quick recovery. Trump said on Truth Social, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Pope Leo XIV’s First Sunday Mass
Pope Leo XIV celebrated his inaugural Mass on Sunday before a crowd of over 200,000 in St. Peter’s Square, officially becoming the 267th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church. With world leaders, church officials, and global faithful watching — including U.S. Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — he called for renewed unity that embraces the Church’s diversity. In his homily, Leo sought to bridge divides between reformists who favor Pope Francis’s inclusive approach and conservatives who advocate a return to tradition. Delegations from over 150 countries attended the historic Mass, underscoring the global significance of the occasion.
At its conclusion, Pope Leo XIV called for a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine and offered prayers for the people of Gaza — especially children, families, and the elderly "reduced to hunger."
Brooklyn Bridge Crash Kills Two
Two crew members died after a Mexican Navy ship crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge during a goodwill tour stop in New York City. Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the fatalities in a post on X late Saturday night.
At a Saturday night press conference, Adams said 277 people were aboard the Mexican Navy vessel when it struck the Brooklyn Bridge around 8:30 p.m. ET. He noted that at least 19 were injured, including four with serious injuries. Why did it happen?
“No one fell into the water, they were all hurt inside the ship,” said NYPD Special Operations Chief Wilson Aramboles. “The ship, from what I was informed by the supervisors of the ship, it was disembarking and going to Iceland.” The New York City Department of Transportation stated via social media that initial inspections showed “no signs of structural damage to the Brooklyn Bridge”.
