Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ Tariffs Are Here

President Donald Trump’s much-anticipated tariffs will be implemented immediately, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The announcement, which is expected to be the administration’s most aggressive tariff action yet, will be made during a Rose Garden ceremony on Wednesday at 4 pm ET.

Although specific details remain unclear, the tariffs are part of Trump’s “Liberation Day” trade policy. His meeting with the trade team Tuesday suggests the announcement is imminent. (Scope of Trump’s tariffs)

On Tuesday, a senior European Union official warned the U.S. that the EU, as the world’s largest trade bloc, held significant leverage when it came to responding to the Trump administration’s new tariffs. He further indicated that the EU had a solid strategy in place to retaliate, if necessary.

From German Chancellor to Canadian Prime Minister, foreign leaders are rethinking their relationship with Washington. Other than political leaders, even the U.S. markets are on edge ahead of the April 2 tariff announcements.

Would the new tariffs evoke high risk for global economy?

Wisconsin SC Elections: Liberal Candidate Triumphs Over Musk's $25M Gamble

Liberal candidate Susan Crawford secured a pivotal seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday, defeating her conservative opponent. The race turned into a referendum on Musk's stance against federal government spending.

The votes marked the first major elections since Trump assumed office in January, providing voters with an opportunity to respond to his sweeping efforts to reduce government size and reshape the U.S. economy through tariffs and anticipated tax cuts. The results served as a crucial gauge of public sentiment on his policies.

Crawford’s win could be crucial for the state Supreme Court, set to address significant issues, including abortion rights and redistricting.

In her victory speech in Madison, Wisconsin, Crawford said, “Today Wisconsinites fended off an unprecedented attack on our democracy. Wisconsin stood up and said loudly that justice does not have a price. Our courts are not for sale.”

What we learnt from the elections?

Brushing the loss, a Trump adviser said, “The results are what they are. It’s an off-year race and predictive of nothing. I don’t think you can read too much into it, including Elon’s role.”

What’s Inside ICE’s Deportation Planes; Flight Attendants Reveal

ICE's deportation flights have been criticized for their treatment of migrants, with flight attendants encountering the stressful and ethically questionable operations, a ProPublica research has revealed. These flights often involve transporting detainees in shackles, and workers face both safety concerns and emotional tolls.

Initially hired to travel with vacationers and sports teams, these flight attendants were soon assigned to federal deportation flights. While some ignored orders not to engage with detainees, others were left untrained on how to handle passengers restrained by shackles. One said, “I’d say ‘hola’ back. We’re not jerks.”

Trained for standard passenger evacuations, these flight attendants lacked guidance on handling detainees restrained by shackles.

On the other hand, for migrants who have spent years striving to reach the U.S., the deportation flight is often their final experience of the country, marking the end of a long journey.

As reported by the New York Post, the Trump administration has arrested about 113,000 people and deported more than 100,000 migrants. What do we know about the students targeted by ICE?

The operations have come with its own set of mistakes. Recently, ICE admitted mistakenly deporting a Maryland man with protected legal status to a notorious prison in El Salvador last month.

Operating with minimal public scrutiny for the last two decades, ICE’s disdain for civil liberties might be deeply rooted.

This or That?

As President Trump challenges diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in both government and private sectors, many companies have distanced themselves from such programs. However, this move has sparked growing public support for DEI in U.S. workplaces. Evidence suggests that some companies may still implement DEI practices discreetly, seeing them as essential to their business despite public withdrawals.
