Trump Signs Revenge Porn Bill

President Trump on Monday signed the "Take It Down Act" into law, making it a federal crime to share real or fake sexually explicit images of people without their consent. Backed by First Lady Melania Trump, who made a rare Capitol Hill appearance in March, the bipartisan bill marks the first federal law targeting non-consensual explicit imagery online. How to use it?
Trump said during the bill signing event, “This will be the first-ever federal law to combat the distribution of explicit imagery posted without subjects' consent. We will not tolerate online sexual exploitation.”
The new law criminalizes sharing "intimate images" — real or AI-generated — without consent and requires tech companies to remove such content within 48 hours. Calling it a "national victory", First Lady Melania Trump said, "This legislation is a powerful step forward in our efforts to ensure that every American, especially young people, can feel better protected from their image or identity being abused."
Two-Hour-Long Call That Fails to End Ukraine War
The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump spoke with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, with the latter call lasting about two hours. After the call, Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine would “immediately” begin ceasefire negotiations, though he indicated he would step back from directly mediating the conflict.
“The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know the details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,” he wrote on TruthSocial. Trump also described the “tone and spirit” of his exchange with Putin as “excellent.”
On the other hand, after the call, Putin said he was open to peace talks with Ukraine but reiterated that Russia would not agree to a cease-fire without broad concessions. “We just need to identify the most effective ways of moving toward peace,” Putin said in a brief statement from Sochi, calling the conversation “very meaningful and quite frank.” It was the third known call between the two leaders since Trump returned to office in January. Putin confirmed Russia was “ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum on a possible future peace agreement,” but stressed that any deal must “remove the root causes of this crisis” — a reference to Moscow’s demand for major influence over Ukraine.
Regeneron Buys 23andMe for $256 Million
Regeneron is acquiring 23andMe out of bankruptcy for $256 million in a court-supervised sale. The once-hyped genetic testing company filed for bankruptcy in March and announced the departure of CEO Anne Wojcicki. Under the deal, Regeneron will take over 23andMe’s core assets, including its personal genome and health research services — but not its Lemonaid Health telehealth arm. The company pledged to follow existing privacy policies and laws, addressing concerns about access to genetic data from 15 million customers. Regeneron said 23andMe’s consumer-genome services will continue without interruption.
If approved by regulators and the bankruptcy court, the Regeneron–23andMe deal is expected to close in Q3 2025. The acquisition would give Regeneron access to genetic data from millions of users — less than two years after a data breach sparked privacy concerns.
Regeneron noted that 84% of 23andMe customers had consented to their data being used for research. 23andMe said Regeneron had extended job offers to all staff in the acquired units. “The transaction maintains critical protections around customer privacy, choice and consent with respect to their genetic data,” said Mark Jensen, chair of 23andMe’s board committee overseeing the sale.
