U.S., China Slash Tariffs For 90 Days

The United States and China have agreed to temporarily reduce tariffs on each other’s goods, according to a joint statement released in Geneva. The move is aimed at easing trade tensions and creating a three-month window for further negotiations between the world’s two largest economies.

Under the agreement, the United States will cut its combined tariffs — currently as high as 145% on most Chinese imports, including those tied to fentanyl — to 30% by May 14. In return, China will lower its 125% tariffs on U.S. products to 10%, officials confirmed during a Monday briefing.

The announcement followed trade talks between China and the U.S. over the weekend in Switzerland, which Bessent had called “productive and constructive”. It marked the first meeting between the two nations since President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs on Chinese imports in January.

Zelensky Agrees to Meet Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he’s ready to meet Vladimir Putin in Turkey on Thursday, after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly urged him to accept the Kremlin’s proposal for direct talks.

Earlier Sunday, Russian President Putin proposed the meeting in a prime-time televised address, suggesting May 15 in Istanbul. Hours later, Russia launched drone strikes on Kyiv, according to the Associated Press. “We await a full and lasting ceasefire, starting from tomorrow, to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings,” Zelensky posted on X.

“And I will be waiting for Putin in Türkiye on Thursday. Personally. I hope that this time the Russians will not look for excuses,” he added. Putin said the talks aimed “to achieve the restoration of a long-term, lasting peace.”

Trump Likely to Cut Drug Prices by 80%

President Donald Trump announced he will sign an executive order Monday morning to slash prescription drug prices “almost immediately, by 30% to 80%.” Posting on Truth Social Sunday, Trump said, “I will be instituting a MOST FAVORED NATION'S POLICY [MFN] whereby the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World.”

Prescription drug prices in the U.S. remain significantly higher than in other countries, a long-standing issue both Trump and former President Biden have vowed to address.

The pharmaceutical industry criticized Trump’s announcement, blaming high drug prices on pharmacy benefit managers and health insurance companies.
